[Vol. 1 Issue #197]
Welcome to the weekend preview and a lighter newsletter on another day in the Matrix of Gloom news. We start with Wes Anderson and his new movie Asteroid City, which is due this summer. Today is the opening day of MLB, and all 30 teams are scheduled to play today. We asked ChatGPT to write up how Wes Anderson would have a character say "Play Ball," Chat's answer was pretty good:
"Alright, folks! Let's get this show on the road! Play ball, if you please!"
Here is what Midjourney thought of this prompt:
Wes Anderson movie about opening day baseball played by autonomous bots in Banff Canada.

Charming Chaos
Sadie Bell, a writer for Alternative Press, reviewed the trailer for Wes Anderson's upcoming summer movie, Asteroid City. In the middle of the quick write-up, she says:
“…and of course, very charming chaos looks like it's set to ensue.” - Sadie Bell
That quote sums up if you have ever seen a Wes Anderson movie. The Grand Budapest Hotel, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Royal Tenenbaums, and Rushmore, to name a few. Those who love these movies can't wait for the next one.
Spotlight
Opening Day
Spring in the U.S. and today is Opening Day in Major League Baseball – all 30 teams are scheduled to play, and there are several stories on this American tradition; lots of new rules, pitch clocks, and larger bases could make the game more exciting and bring the overall game time down. Axios AM brings us the story and a chart showing the cost of heading out to a ballgame. An "eyeball" of all thirty teams, and you get an average of $250 for a group of four at a game. That sounds reasonable for a few games per season, but the MLB plays 162 games in a regular season before the playoffs. If you love the game, play ball!

Bat Car
Autonomous cars are coming; when they do, we will wonder why it went so long before we had them. A vehicle has to use several technologies, from camera vision from multiple angles to sonar and depth calculations. All of this has to be added to a predictive model and happen in less than a second. Axios gives us the details.
Some of this same technology is in many modern cars. New additions to cruise control can automatically slow a car down based on the distance it is from other vehicles. Alerts on your dash and a vibrating steering wheel might warn you of lane changes and inattentive driving.
Rough Road
According to the CDC, road traffic crashes are the leading cause of death for people ages 1 to 54. The sooner we can get to self-driving, the faster that number will come down.
