Olney Pancake Races
In the U.S., especially in NOLA (New Orleans), we celebrate Fat Tuesday with big parades and Mardi Gras. Fat Tuesday is our last day of debauchery before Lent, which starts on Ash Wednesday. In the Catholic tradition, you spend 40 days in preparation for Easter. There is a town in England called Olney where they celebrate something called Shrove Tuesday; as the story goes, this tradition started in the 15th Century and involved a hurried housewife rushing to attend church services with a frying pan still in her hand.
Tradition Continue
This could be the oldest tradition on record dating back to 1445, and it was revived in 1948 and has run every year since. A few other fascinating traditions are coming out of the same area; amazing Grace was written in Olney by Rev John Newton and celebrates its 250th anniversary this year.

Airless Basketball
Designboom has an interesting story on Wilson's new 3D-printed airless basketball. The article and associated video walks through how they went through the process of creating the prototype. They worked with a company called EOS that has previously worked in the aerospace, automotive, and medical industries. An airless basketball will not be on the shelves anytime soon, it is only a prototype, but it looks promising. There is a video of the 3D printing process here.
