I was thinking…
Huh!?
Fables Reconstruction, an explainer.
OK, so what’s going on with this? I am a practicing writer and musician. I use the term “practicing” to mean, I am practicing being a well-published writer and I practice playing and creating music to be a good musician. Right now, I am not a professional writer or a musician who performs in front of an audience. I will be.
I have been a professional entrepreneur and small business owner for most of my career, using many of the same tools I've used to build businesses, I decided to move writing and music from the idea stage to execution. Spending too much time developing and organizing the idea of writing and music I decided to move to write and publish every day.
In a way to avoid any excuses, I simplified the process, and I am taking inspirational writing and rewriting it. In addition to rewriting the piece, I practice my "touch typing" – a little explainer on "touch typing". I've used a version of touch typing for years. In the version I use I do not look at my hands, I have a good sense of the keyboard layout and I create the words in my head and use my hands and keyboard to write them while I look at what I'm writing. I am now learning how often I must use backspace and delete using this method. The advanced version of touch typing goes like this; I read what I'm going to copy, not looking at my hands or at what I've typed. This is unfamiliar and at times even makes me nauseous when I'm doing it.
Why Do This?
There are several benefits to adding this method to my daily writing practice. I am more focused and conscious while typing. The rewrites force additional thought into what I'm reading, and writing and why the original piece meant something to me. I add thoughts and feelings about the piece I rewrite after I rewrite it each day. This advanced focus provides commentary to me and my writing.
Strangely, it also helps with practicing music. I play the guitar, and training your mind to memorize a keyboard to make typing more efficient is similar to training your hands to know what they are supposed to be doing on a guitar. Typing is more hand to eye and guitar is more hand to ear, but the practicing and the focus are similar.
This experiment is early in its development. Primary goals in 2022 include 100 published posts in 100 days and the production of original music before the end of the year.
What’s In It For You?
A quick inspirational read. Every day there will be a quote, poem, song lyrics, or piece of writing that inspires me. I will add interesting bits of history about the piece, and what it means to me, and like this explainer, I will add what I’m learning while experimenting with this. The original purpose of this daily letter is to motivate me to write a publish every day. This newsletter will be a work in progress in 2022, improvements will grow often and organically.
Thank you for being a part of the journey.
Be Good!
