[Vol. 1 Issue #193]
Below the intro is a link you can play while reading the newsletter; it was the same video we listened to while writing it. Beautiful imagery of a castle in Mont Saint-Michel in France. As you expand your sonic range, get into the stories with a great medium read on bug monsters and continue the laughter with Irish comedians. Head back to the curious in a tale about ageless actors and the future design of a stairway. What more do you need on a Sunday afternoon.

Big Stories
Thug Bugs
If you read news for a living and write content daily, reading a long piece from beginning to end is challenging. Typically, you scan each piece picking out the best bits and reporting on them. When a long story hits the inbox, and you read every word as the minutes fly by, it means the piece warrants the undivided and full attention of the reader. This article from the Wait But Why archives are one of those stories. Today Tim Urban takes us on a journey of a bug monster's life.
Clever, Funny, and Scientific
Any one of those is enough to write a good story; put all three together, and you can't stop reading due to the laughter and irony each paragraph provides. Bugs are monsters, on the one hand, that can sound like a paranoid scary person description, or when Urban goes into it further, he points out that most horror movie creatures are bugs blown up and that bugs are the only other creature that is willing to invade a home and die trying to get whatever it wants. Yes, that sounds like a monster.
Caterpillar Smoothie
According to Urban, there are three levels of bug trauma; all of them have been felt by all of us at one time or another. Drinking a caterpillar might be on the extreme end, which is also why you need at least three levels. The article ends with natural science; if you can laugh, learn and have a story to tell others, that's a knock-out story.

Age-Less
Age is just a number or a good AI touch-up if you are on film. Consequence TV brings us an interesting article about what some could describe as ageless actors; others might want to know what filter the show uses to "young down" these actors. The writer Liz Shannon Miller also asks, "why not get an actor closer in age?" She's not wrong; it's one thing to cast the 20-something Michael J. Fox as the teenage Alex P. Keaton on Family Ties, but it is easier to get away with that one and to bring on an actor with some experience to play a younger role. It's another thing to get a 40-something to play a 20-something. Then again, we are all just acting in some sense!
Spotlight
Big Irish
It could be the algorithm, but YouTube serves Irish comedians in our feed. Dylan Moran popped up last week, which sparked several hours of hilarity. Today a new show to us found its way into our meal, a chat show by Tommy Tiernan, another Irish Standup. We first heard of Tiernan as Da Gerry on Derry Girls, father of Erin Quinn, one of the Derry Girls. We have been introduced to The Tommy Tiernan Show, which we found on YouTube and then on a website with clips of several shows.
Smartless Meets Emerald Isle
Similar to the Smartless podcast staring; Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes, where two or three hosts do not know who the guest is until they show up on the video screen – Tiernan also does not know until his guest shows up in the studio who it will be. This on-the-fly approach lends itself to a spontaneous conversation that can be fun to watch.
We recommend both the shows and the podcast!

Stairway to the Future
Moss And Fog bring us a way to wake up the senses, take the ordinary, and turn it into something beautiful, functional, and unique. Stair designs from around the world. Some stairways use color and the underside of the stairwell to show off the design features; in others, the stairs are the stars. Our favorites from the article include the floating red staircase and the integrated library.
